The Arusha Technical College (ATC), originally established in 1978 as the Technical College Arusha, was a joint venture between the governments of Tanzania and Germany. Located in the Central Business District of Arusha City, a hub for agriculture, commerce, trade, and tourism in Northern Tanzania, ATC is ideally situated near prominent landmarks like Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, and world-renowned wildlife reserves such as the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park. The College initially focused on training technicians in various engineering fields, offering Full Technician Certificates (FTC) for three years. In 2007, the College was renamed Arusha Technical College and gained autonomy, allowing it to expand its offerings to include Ordinary Diplomas and Bachelor’s degree programs in various technical and engineering disciplines.
ATC has continued to evolve, planning to introduce new degree programs in Electrical Engineering, Laboratory Science, and Mechatronics, as well as new diploma programs in Clinical Laboratory Science Technology and Heavy Duty Equipment Technology, among others. Legally registered and accredited by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) and the Vocational Education Training Authority (VETA), ATC trains technicians, engineers, and artisans to meet the growing demands of the Tanzanian workforce. The College is undergoing significant administrative and academic transformations to align with its enhanced structure and roles, aiming to become a center of excellence in technical education and training, as outlined in national policies and the Tanzania Development Vision 2025.
ATC is well-regarded by industry leaders for producing competent, work-ready graduates who are highly employable. The College is committed to continually upgrading its support to students, ensuring that its academic programs are of high quality and relevant to the needs of employers. The ATC prospectus provides an overview of the academic programs, admission requirements, course durations, and other essential information, reflecting the institution’s dedication to its students and stakeholders. The College’s functions include providing study and training facilities, engaging in research and consultancy services, and fostering cooperation with both local and international institutions of higher education.
